Indulgence, Indulgence.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Oh dear, apologies for the very long hiatus! I’ve been busy settling a lot of issues, hence the lack of updates on this site. :( Anyway, I’ve been putting on some weight because of the massive food outings (I think)! Recently, I’ve eaten some awesome chendol at Katong Shopping Centre, awesome tarts and cakes from Tampopo Deli and a lot of yummy noodles from various stores.

This is the Mont Blanc tart @ Tampopo Deli — the cream inside the tart blended with the icing makes it extremely delicious and tasty! The tart itself is a bit hard though, hence you’ll need to use a stronger fork when eating this goodie. Credits to Miao and a huge thanks to him for introducing this to Sonia and me! And of course, for treating us to dessert after a long walk at Henderson Waves.

Speaking of Henderson Waves, I just realized that it’s quite a nice place to chill out there, although it can be filled with buzzing visitors and strangely enough, monkeys, during the late afternoon. Since we (Sonia, Miao and I) realized that the treetop walk closes at 5pm on Public Holidays, we decided to head to the waves instead to relax and do some photography. The end result was a huge amount of self-portraits because of the very nice sunlight which lit up our faces. At least I managed to get a decent architecture shot throughout the whole trip.

Think I’ll go back there when I feel lazy and just want to find a nice warm place to snooze. :P Can’t wait for my next food outing with Claire though! I think we’ll be going to Twinnings at Orchard ION to try out the macarons there, though I think I may just end up bringing her elsewhere to eat good pasta. Now I’ll have to save up so that I have enough to spend at the weekends…

Blue Green Chromis

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Yayness! My uncle donated a pair of cleaner shrimp and blue green chromis because he’s moving out and he doesn’t want to keep saltwater fish anymore. My new (old) fish are currently living with my blue tang and clownfish, though I think they are slightly too large for my fishtank… :\ The entire process of catching these 4 critters took TWO HOURS. Oh my goodness. Like two über long hours! There was one cleaner shrimp and one chromis that were ridiculously hard to catch, hence me and my uncle had to first remove all the live rock from the tank, followed by draining the water, so that we could catch them. Of course, after all that draining, the both of us spent a long time washing the floor… but he taught me how to drain water efficiently by simply using a hose! I suppose it has something to do with the water pressure at work. And he taught me how to adjust the water pressure of the hose too! At least I learnt something interesting besides catching fish during those two hours.

I went out with Miao and Jolyn on Good Friday and we chilled at Cafe Oliv, a restaurant near Katong Mall. I tried the 4 course lunch — mushroom soup, mushroom and bacon pasta, muddy mud pie, followed by camomile tea — and I’d say that it’s worth the value. I paid $16.90++ for all those and the food was quite good actually! Miao’s brownie with vanilla ice cream was secretly more awesome than my muddy mud pie! The best muddy mud pie I’ve ever tasted, imho, is the one at Takashimaya’s Coffee Club. My next objective (after I’ve lost enough weight to not feel so guilty) is to try the muddy mud pie at Island Creamery… which wouldn’t be anytime soon, meh.

After lunch we headed to the Esplanade and enjoyed the breeze, while looking at the scenery. We chatted for a while and then I went off first since I needed to go to work later on in the day… well, at least we lost some weight by walking after lunch! Gah, I ate a lot of desert this week — green tea soya bean vanilla ice cream, nama green tea chocolate ice cream (a treat from Jon) and muddy mud pie (with Jolyn and Miao)!!! SUPER FATTY! This means major cutting down next week! Roar! Gotta stick to my strict diet and make sure I loose weight! No cheesy food the next week and lots of exercise!

I’m still thinking of what to submit for the NUS Montage 2010 competition. Oh well, I suppose inspiration will come sooner or later… in any case, enjoy the photos below which I took throughout this week! :)

marinabayA photo of the second IR that’s under construction. From the Esplanade, we could see the sky roof garden and the plants that have been placed there to spice up the greenery at the top.

sapphire2_rI was around the area one day and I decided to take a photo of the surroundings near the Fragrance Hotel-Sapphire. I suppose I was really lucky because the sky cleared up after raining for three hours, hence allowing me to snap a photo of this hotel with the blue sky at the top. The sky didn’t just clear up from its black and gloomy self, but the sun came out too! What I like about this photo is not just the blue, blue sky, but the very fact that the road has a shimmery golden hue. This was caused by the raindrops on the road, the reflection of the building on the puddles of water and the bright sun shining… I guess this was really my lucky day. :)

Udders!

Phew! This week was a very exciting week and I’m glad that I’ve absorbed quite a lot of knowledge. :) Anyway, I had my lesson today though I felt a bad cos I didn’t practise. :\ So I ended up spending the entire session ironing out the many major kinks I had in the song I was tasked to play… still, I managed to get through somehow and I finally got a better hang of the quarter beat rhythms.

I went out with Yuan Lin after our lessons and we decided to go to United Square to eat, yay! At first we were thinking of going to Jack’s Place to eat, in the hope of finding a good affordable student meal… only to realize that we were no longer students. -_- Since we’ve not been enrolled in any higher learning institute yet, we don’t have, say, NUS or SMU’s matriculation card. This means that we don’t have student benefits at all! Geesh. I suppose we all have to grow up someday and learn that we HAVE to pay things at the proper price instead of living on discounts all the time. Meh.

We went to do some window shopping later on and we found ourselves looking at the Gundam toys in Toys ‘R Us. The selection of Gundam models is becoming lesser and it’s really quite sad! I suppose it may be due to the fact that not many people find them attractive anymore… oh well. We waltzed around Toys ‘R Us and went out of the building after a short tour of the stuff that is in United Square  (tour conducted by me hahaha).

Outside the building we ate some of the best ice cream. EVER.

UDDERS! The queue was very long, but at least they cleared the crowds fast! Yuan Lin got a “Tira-Miss-U” and I got a “Hazel’s Nuts”, both of which are the connoisseur selection at the store. A single scoop’s $3.20, but a connoisseur scoop costs  $5.30, which is a lot lot more. But anyway, it was very good! Yuan Lin’s tiramisu flavoured ice-cream had a rather prominent alcohol taste, whereas my hazelnut was just awesome. I recommend those who love ice-cream to give the store a try! They have a wide variety of flavours there; if I’m not wrong, they have Earl Grey ice cream too. :O

The next few days will be super tiring, so I suppose I’ll be headed to my bed to sleep now heh. Have a good night folks!
